Overview of Pack Verify in Zenventory

Key Terms

  • Picking is pulling items off the shelf.
  • Packing is putting them in a box and closing it.
  • Shipping Order (SO) —  Items from the same customer order that are shipped out together.
  • Customer Order (CO) — The original order placed by the customer, which can be split across one or more shipping orders. Oorders can be combined on shipping orders meaning a SO can contains contents from more than one order if someone combines two COs heading towards the same customer.
  • Package — A container of packed items within a shipping order. A shipping order can contain multiple packages. Also, contents from multiple orders can be packed into the same package if the orders have been combined
  • FulfillmentFulfillments are relayed to integrations when the SO closes, not when the shipment is created. If a user wants to relay a partial fulfillment along with tracking, they must hit confirm shipments on the single ship page and/or mark as shipped.

What Is Pack Verify?

Pack Verify adds an optional packaging-confirmation step so teams can confirm exactly what goes into each box before creating a shipping label. It is especially useful for multi-box shipments, giving teams more accuracy, flexibility, and confidence when an order does not fit into a single box.

What is changing in Zenventory?

When Does an Order Appear on the Ready to Ship Page?

  • At least one item allocated to the Customer Order has been picked.
  • The open Shipping Order (SO) for that customer has at least one closed package with packed contents.

How Pack Verify works with Combined and Uncombined Orders.

Combining or uncombining shipping orders always unpacks any related packed orders first, then repacks according to your Auto-Pack setting:

  • With Auto-Pack enabled:
    • Combined orders' contents go into a single package, which is automatically closed.
    • Uncombined orders are each packed into their own package and closed automatically. The order number that was scanned/used to get to the single ship screen should be displayed and be ready to ship and all split off orders should also be in that state ready to be scanned/shipped next
  • With Auto-Pack disabled:
    • Combining opens the rearrange modal with all items moved to unpacked, ready for you to sort manually and a package for each order.
    • Uncombining behaves the same way, but only for the order used to access the screen.

Good-to-Know Facts

  • Transfer Orders: Follow the same ready-to-ship visibility rule as customer orders — a partially allocated TO that's fully picked against that allocation will show as ready to ship, so a partial TO could ship if you're not careful. TOs cannot be combined with customer orders.
  • ShipStation: Only the first tracking number on a shipment uploads correctly (pre-existing issue, not new). ShipStation also still uploads on pick rather than pack.
  • Shipment communication rules: Only fire once the entire customer order has shipped, using the full combined contents — not per individual label or package close.
  • Any line item edit — including edits coming from an integration — unpacks the order, because an edit unpicks first. It will attempt to repack automatically based on your Auto-Pack setting.
  • Anything combined and shipped stays combined — uncombining only affects the still-unshipped portion.
