An item's bill of materials might need to be changed from time to time. If you need to do so for multiple items, it might not be efficient to do this through each individual item's details. This article will walk you through how to remove the current Bill of Materials from an item and then bulk upload in a new Bill of Materials for that item using the Admin>Import Data tool.
Remove a current Bill of Materials (BOM):
- Go to Reports > Inventory Reports and generate a Kit Summary Report in .CSV format.
- Open the report in your spreadsheet program (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.). Change the BOM SKU's quantities to 0.
- Save the file as a .CSV.
- Go to Admin > System > Import Data > Bill of Material. For detailed instructions on uploading bulk data, use the instructions here: https://help.zenventory.com/import-data-in-bulk-from-a-spreadsheet-csv
- Map the Kit Item SKU, Component SKU, Quantity, and Unit of Measurement columns.
- Complete the upload.
- Once complete, you can double check that the kit SKU's BOM items have been successfully removed by going to Admin > Items and pulling up the item details of that specific item.
Import a new Bill of Materials (BOM):
- Create a spreadsheet file with the same column headings as the Kit Summary you ran earlier. You can use the same file as before.
- Update the Component SKU #'s and quantities to the new data you wish to import.
- Save the file as a .CSV (download sample .CSV here).
- Once complete, you can double check that the kit SKU's BOM items have been successfully imported by going to Admin > Items and pulling up the item details of that specific item.
